Houston Texans

So for my first blog, i wanted to talk about my favorite football team, the Houston Texans. Free agency has begun and the Texans have been active for once. Yesterday they signed Antonio Smith, a 27 yr old DE who was dominant for the Arizona Cardinals during there playoff run. Today, they signed QB Dan Orlovsky to backup Matt Schaub. not a huge splash, but we needed someone and he's not bad.

Next order of buisness(if i was GM), bring in SS Sean Jones to compete with 2nd yr man Dominique Barber, then sign Derrick Ward to compliment Slaton. if we can't sign him, then we take a chance on Cedric Benson. Now i know this guy has been a bust and blown his chances before and has a drinking problem. here me out, he was solid for Cincinatti during their win streak, averaging 118.2 yds per/gm. he also stayed out of trouble and won't cost as much as Ward will. if we have to settle on Benson, i will be willing to use a 4th round pick on a project back who can do the one cut technique and is a power runner. Also, and this is key, resign Dunta and extend DeMeco.

this brings me to my next order of buisness, the draft. here's what i predict we will do if we bring in these FA's and resign Dunta and pay DeMeco what he's worth. Bare with me...

ok here goes...

Round 1- Trade down to the mid 20's, and select Boston College DT Ron Brace. Since we signed Antonio Smith, our need at DE isn't as drastic, so i think we address the fact that we don't have a runstuffer in the middle. Okoye can be a beast, but as more of a pass rushing DT and he needs someone to occupy the middle. Brace is massive and athletic, plus he's been overshadowed by teammate BJ Raji, so he is a bargain in my opinion.

Round 2- if he's still there, i think we take a chance on OLB Clay Matthews and no not because his uncle is now a Texans coach (Bruce Matthews). Although his production is was limited, he was just overshadowed by bigger names like Maualuga and Cushing. He is a great athlete and has impressed coach's, scouts, and gm's since the senior bowl. at worst, he becomes solid depth behind Diles and Adibi. if he is not there, maybe take safeties Patrick Chung or Reshad Johnson.

Round 3- Ok, with a 27 yr old veteren DE now on the team, i think we use our 3rd rd pick on Lawerence Sidbury, the DE from Richmond. He is a pure speed rusher who needs some polishing. his workouts are strong and i watched his performance in the 1AA national championship game and holy shit. he's the future folks. A guard works here too.

Round 4- Andre Brown, RB from NC State. nice straight line runner who adds depth.

Round 5- Draft a QB.

Round 6 and 7- A safety works, best prospect scenario.

If only it was this easy.

Texans 11-5 in 2009-10.....i hope
